New Delhi, May 25: In a high-level conclave of NDA Chief Ministers and Deputy Chief Ministers, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday called for adopting the best governance practices from across states to accelerate the vision of a ‘Viksit Bharat’ (Developed India). Emphasising inclusive growth, PM Modi reiterated that his government believes not in caste politics, but in empowering the marginalised.
Addressing the leadership from 20 NDA-ruled states, PM Modi highlighted that caste enumeration is a step toward bringing the underprivileged and backward communities into the mainstream of development. “Our focus is on empowerment, not division,” Modi said, reinforcing the need for social justice through data-backed policies.
Seven successful governance models were presented during the conclave. These included Uttarakhand’s Uniform Civil Code, Chhattisgarh’s Bastar Olympics, Assam’s child marriage prevention campaign, Bihar’s Jal Jeevan Hariyali Abhiyaan, Gujarat’s solar power initiative, and Meghalaya’s model for accountable governance.
The conclave passed a resolution applauding the Indian Armed Forces and the indigenous defence technologies that powered Operation Sindoor. The mission, seen as a bold response to terrorism, was hailed as a major step in India’s path to self-reliance in defence. A committee will be formed to evaluate and replicate these governance models in other NDA-ruled states to ensure a unified and effective development strategy across the alliance.
Another resolution backed the upcoming caste enumeration in the next national census. It reaffirmed the NDA’s commitment to the upliftment of Dalits, backward classes, and other marginalised sections. BJP President J.P. Nadda clarified that while the NDA does not believe in caste-based politics, the census is necessary to bring development to those who have been historically left behind.
In his remarks, PM Modi emphasised the transformation of India into a “powerful, capable and self-reliant nation.” He cited progress in underdeveloped regions such as the North East, and among women and backward districts. Home Minister Amit Shah elaborated on the government’s achievements in combating Naxalism, particularly in areas like Bastar, where the Bastar Olympics now symbolize a return to peace.
Key leaders from backward communities, including Haryana CM Nayab Singh Saini and Andhra Pradesh Deputy CM Pawan Kalyan, proposed and seconded the resolutions, underscoring the alliance’s inclusive vision. The conclave also paid tribute to the victims of the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, reaffirming national unity and the resolve to fight terrorism.
Participants also discussed the Modi government’s upcoming milestones, including the first anniversary of its third term, the 50th anniversary of the Emergency, and a decade of International Yoga Day. PM Modi urged that national initiatives like Amrit Sarovar for water conservation and the cleanliness campaign should be treated as ongoing movements, not isolated efforts.
